Ryan White Title I- PEER MENTORING PROGRAM

 

The Peer Mentoring Program under Orange County Ryan White Title I funding, provides non-licensed counseling to individuals and groups, infected or affected by the HIV virus, their family, and/or friends.
Peer Mentors provide:

1. Education to navigate the system, access medical care, case management, financial planning, employment, daily living, emotional support, and transmission risk reduction.

2. Coordinate care as appropriate with collateral service Providers/service systems to ensure optimal consumer care.

3. Comprehensive community resource network of related health and social services organizations to ensure a wide-based knowledge of the availability of both HIV/AIDS services and basic services such as food, shelter, and clothing services, and facilitate referral.

4. Promote autonomy and informed participation in care.

What some of the program titles deal with:

• Peer Mentoring – This program is designed to assist individuals in Central Florida to navigate the HIV community support system, to plan their activities to become self-sufficient and to organize their lives so that they can live better.
• Health Advocates – This program assists individuals with HIV/AIDS who have left the system of care to re-enter. CMWP receive referral lists from Orange County Health department, HUG Me and private physicians.
• Dental Management – This program provides dental services to persons with HIV/AIDS in Central Florida.
